Position located in Chiloquin, Oregon.

The Ambodat Director is responsible for the administrator, supervision, management and programmatic implementation of the established goals of the Klamath Tribes regarding fisheries, hydrology, water quality and aquatic ecosystem restoration and enhancement the entire river basin. Primary responsibility is the management and enhancement of the recovery of the endangered cwaam (Lost River sucker) and q’ado (shortnose sucker) fisheries; re-establishing extinct runs of Chinook salmon and steelhead; managing and enhancing redband trout populations; restoring and enhancing rivers, lakes and wetlands; control and remediation of non-point source external nutrient loading to the hypereutrophic Upper Klamath Lake, as well as control and remediation of internal nutrient loading in the lake; and research and monitoring needed to support these activities.

 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop, establish and meet the Ambodat Department short and long-term goals and objectives in line with Tribal goals and the Tribal Strategic Plan. Develop and implement associated work plans and procedures.
2. Manage staff scientists and professionals as collaborative teams designed to distill diversity of scientific perspectives into effective aquatic ecosystem management strategies.
3. Develop, based upon ongoing input from staff scientists and guidance from appropriate Tribal entities, aquatic ecosystem management strategies designed to accomplish goals of the Klamath Tribes; adjust and prioritize based on the situation and immediate need.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

1. General knowledge and understanding of Tribal organization, functions, policies, goals, priorities and operating programs.
2. Ability to gain the knowledge of Tribal Department components, and the inter-relationships among those components and pertinent issues affecting aquatic ecosystem management.
3. Knowledge of theories, practices and principles as they apply to researching, monitoring and managing aquatic ecosystems.

 
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION

1. REQUIRED to possess a Master's Degree in a field directly pertinent to management of aquatic ecosystems.
2. REQUIRED to have five years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative capacity, including a minimum of two years of direct staff supervision; at least two years of experience must be directly managing programs
3. REQUIRED to have two years of budgetary experience in an administrative capacity and be able to interpret and administer multiple complex funding streams and strict budgetary guidelines as outlined in program grants and memorandums of agreements (MOUs)
