Jewish Family Service of Greater Harrisburg is currently looking for a Chief Executive Officer. JFS is a well-established, highly respected, growing, and diverse social services agency serving all members of the Central Pennsylvania area. Our programs include Mynd Works, an outpatient mental health services; Family-Based mental health services; Adoption & Foster Care; Refugee and Resettlement Services; and Senior Services.

The Agency is nestled on the Jewish Federation’s beautiful new Alexander Grass Campus for Jewish Life, alongside the Brenner Family Early Learning Center, the Symons Family Fitness Center, the Jewish Community Foundation of Central Pennsylvania and the Silver Academy, the only Jewish Day School in the region. Harrisburg, rich in Jewish history, is home to five synagogues.

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

 


GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The CEO is responsible for implementing the direction, goals and objectives of the agency. This person is also responsible for the successful leadership and implementation of strategic plans, management of the agency, fiscal management, staff management and development, fundraising, board development and building interagency and community relationships. This position ensures that the agency adheres to all federal, state and county mandates.

This position is ideal for an experienced Non-Profit Executive looking to utilize their current experience in a growing agency.

 


Financial
 Management

  • Financial planning and budget
  • Oversees all aspects of finance
  • Participates with Management team for yearly budget process, including planning and implementation
  • Monitors accounts payable and receivables for all services
  • Provides marketing oversight
  • Manages the agency’s tax-exempt status
  • Familiarity with tax returns, audits and grant reporting

 

Administration

  • Oversee all aspects of licensing, accreditation, risk management, annual reports
  • Has final approval for agency staff hiring
  • Accountable for communicating final hiring decisions to the Board President

 

Personnel Management

  • Supervise and collaborate with management team

 

Board of Directors Liaison

  • Provide information to the Board of Directors regarding the operation of programs in accordance with agency policy, continuous quality improvement, and risk management.
  • Recommend new programs, modifying or closing programs
  • Implementation and annual review of long-term strategic planning
  • Handles all issues related to the achievement of the agency’s mission
  • Frequent communication with Board President on agency matters related to financial, fundraising, employee relations, and staffing needs.

 

Community Liaison

  • Network with other community organizations to represent and promote Jewish Family Service and seek possibilities for collaborations.

Performance and Quality Improvement

  • Oversite of PQI and team management meetings to ensure programs meet standards of excellence

 

Donor Development

  • Identify potential donors and sharing information with the Board of Directors
  • Build relationships with current and potential donors regarding JFS programs and services
  • Accountable, along with the Board, to fundraise.
 
Requirements:
  • A master’s degree is required; preferably MBA or MSW.
  • Relevant experience in a social services setting with progressively responsible administrative and supervisory capacities.
  • Must have experience in the overall management of a non-profit organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience in several of the administrative areas, including the highest level.
  • Previous leadership and supervisory experience, including staff development, mentoring, and motivation is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain partnerships between individuals, governmental and non-governmental organizations, corporations, and foundations.
  • Track record of strong fiscal management: 2 years’ experience and profound understanding of accounting processes.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and volunteer committees.
  • Expertise in human service delivery.
  • Understanding of major gift fundraising, with the ability and enthusiasm to involve and solicit the board and other community leaders for gifts.
  • Familiarity and accepting of Jewish values.
  • Computer literate, specifically in Microsoft Applications Systems.
