Location: Kanab, Utah

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $57,000 to $67,000 annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: The Safety Specialist supports the development and maintenance of a strong safety culture and advancement of organizational safety goals through the implementation of safety programs and procedures, development and delivery of targeted training, performance of audits and inspections, provision of operational support for safety committee(s), and promotion of safe work practices at all levels of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic.

  • Lead the performance of safety inspections at Kanab-based facilities and make recommendations for correcting identified unsafe conditions and work practices, and work with internal business partners to ensure the completion of identified corrective actions.

  • Maintain hazard, incident, and investigation reports in accordance with departmental procedures and regulatory standards.

  • Implement, and maintain safety programs and procedures to eliminate, control, or mitigate injury and illness hazards and to comply with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Manage safety training programs, procedures, and records.

  • Periodically report on training progress and work with department management to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory safety training requirements.

  • Oversee the safety committees and lead the process of ensuring compliance with assigned corrective, preventive, or other actions.

  • Research and recommend options for safety products to meet OSHA and NIOSH standards.

  • Prepare special reports, memos and other documentation as requested.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting up to 40 pounds, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.

  • Work at a computer or driving a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm, and hand motion.

  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

  • Valid driver’s license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.

  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule.
