The Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at North Carolina State University is supported by a $30 million grant award from the Bezos Earth Fund. The Center comprises a dynamic, collaborative team of researchers, educators, practitioners, trainees, and staff led by Professor Rohan Sirwaiker, Co-Director & Chief Scientific Officer, and William Aimutis, Co-Director & Chief Operating Officer. Together with academic and industry partners, the Center will advance research, workforce development, and outreach related to the biomanufacturing of diverse types of sustainable proteins while serving as a global knowledge and networking hub.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates for a postdoctoral researcher to lead stakeholder engagement research and outreach activities for the Center. The ideal candidate for this role is familiar with various forms of stakeholder engagement, has experience developing and conducting in-person workshops, has experience developing outreach and educational materials, and has demonstrated experience leading independent research that investigates stakeholder perceptions of foods, proteins, and/or new technologies in food/agriculture systems.

The primary responsibilities for this role include:
- Collaborating with other Center researchers to identify and map roles of key stakeholders in the sustainable proteins ecosystem at state and national levels.
- Collaborating with other Center researchers to assess stakeholder (including consumers) perceptions and views of sustainable proteins.
- Organizing and conducting workshops to engage diverse stakeholders to understand their views, driving forces, and potential barriers related to advancing manufacturing, acceptance, and adoption of sustainable proteins.
- Developing outreach and educational materials, including materials for the public to increase awareness about sustainable proteins.
- Leading the development of 2-3 peer-reviewed manuscripts and/or other technical documents per year.
- Supporting the Center’s workforce development activities including mentoring of students.
- Contributing to the Center’s public engagement and outreach activities.
Current appointment is for 1 year, with a possibility of an extension depending on performance and continuation of funding.
This position will report to both Dr. Khara Grieger and Dr. Bill Aimutis.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Contributing to annual reports to be submitted to the sponsor, as needed.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM with additional hours as neededDepartment Required Skills
- PhD in Science, Technology & Society (STS), social sciences, or STEM-related fields
- Strong research skills and track record, including qualitative methods and experience with stakeholder interviews.
- Strong oral and written communication skills demonstrated through professional presentations and technical writing (e.g., peer-reviewed journal papers).
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, actively communicate, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with or working with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate and work well within teams.
- Expertise with word processing programs, spreadsheets, and survey tools
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Familiarity with food and agriculture systems, sustainable/alternative proteins, and/or emerging technologies in food/agriculture systems.
- Evidence of effective project management skills.
